Product description

Smaug came hurtling from the North, licking the mountain-sides with flame, beating his great wings with a noise like a roaring wind. Against him stood – a hobbit. Poor Bilbo Baggins! A plump and peace-loving hobbit (as those small, furry-footed people tend to be), Bilbo hates adventures. But one day a knock at the door tugs him into a crazy quest, and before long Bilbo is on the road to danger! Whisked from his snug hobbit-hole by Gandalf the wizard and his dwarves, Bilbo is caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent – a large and very dangerous dragon. Seen the film? Now read the epic book. It all started with Tolkien… right here. “A flawless masterpiece.” The Times p(hidden). #reading-lists-9 p(hidden). #reading-lists-11

    This book shows what real bravery and friendship is. It is a brilliant story, especially if you like fantasy and adventure. I found that J.R.R. Tolkien made up a lot of new and strange words, for example, ‘combobulated’.

    It was quite to hard read at times (especially the long chapters in the forest), but I would recommend this book to people aged 10 and over – including adults.

    The Hobbit was a great book although I did find Lord of the Rings knowledge may be needed- of which I don`t have much.

    The Hobbit follow the story of Bilbo Baggins who is volunteered for a journey by Gandalf the wizard and a group of 13 dwarves (hence an unexpected journey) to get back the Dwarves treasure from Smaug the Magnificent the large, perilous dragon.

    The book’s moral for me was that despite being small you can still become a hero which Bilbo demonstrated perfectly.

    This is an enchanting book; Tolkien has a great talent in the world of creating books which capture many peoples imaginations (young and old). The book is beautifully written with a few comical scenes. Tolkein’s writing skills and styles convince the reader that the story is actual happening around you and that the hobbit is a real creature (sorry to all the fans that I have now left in sadness!)

    I rate this book 8/10, a must read- it probably would have better if I had more knowledge of the Lord of the Rings (but I am not saying don’t read this book if you havent read the Lord of the Rings).

    I love this book so much!! J.r.r tolkien has done a fantastic job writing this and the vocabulary used is phenomenal, I learned so many new descriptions!! This book is soooo gripping and it leaved me at the edge of my seat but I found that towards the end/middle of the book, it went on a bit and I lost interest a bit but I soon picked it up and carried on till the end. Many of my friends recommended this book to me and after seeing the film I couldn’t resist reading it and giving it a go!! I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone seeing as it was recommended to me!:)

    * SPOILER ALERT *

    O! God. This is overwhelming. I am laughing, going mad and above all crying. This is too much happiness for me to take the path of a journey that once been taken by one of my favorite Hobbit ever Mr. Baggins which I am so proud of; he never imagined that his Took side of the family might might take over him one day when he leave his house one morning to catch up the 13 dwarves who been uninvited to his Hobbit’s hall but yet they spent the whole night eating and sings making it uncomfortable for any Hobbit and more over there invitation to him. He even left without his pocket handkerchief. I believe it is unbelievable for a Hobbit but so as Gandalf said Bilbo is the lucky number ; he was. Starting the journey he was frighten adding to the new path he took that no Baggins but might be a Took have taken once before. To Rivendell where he got to meet the elven kings under the sky, to the heart of the the misty mountains and meeting the very forgotten creature Gollum that he challenged for riddle or Bilbo would be eaten. Bilbo won his life but above all he won the ring that mad him walk through shadows, he tricked the goblins and with his ring saved the life of the dwarvesmany countless time; that he turned to be the most important fellow of the 15. Meeting eagles and Dragon! He was the only brave to meet and even speak with the mighty dragon (poor Bilbo or poor us? that we never though how a small fellow of a Hobbit can change the face of the earth and history within?)
