Product Description

A fast-paced story-diary set in 1840s Manchester. Saturday 21st May, 1842: “Something terrible has happened. I can scarcely bring myself to write the words. I AM TO START AT THE MILL ON MONDAY!” Eliza has heard dreadful things about the working mills that are sweeping across Britain, turning it into an industrial nation. The work is said to be hard, and the conditions atrocious. Now it is Eliza’s turn to find out the truth for herself. Will she still be Eliza – or just a pair of factory hands?

I adore this book. It’s my one of my favorite books I’ve read. I think her friendship with Jack is really sweet. I think jack is my favorite character! I would recomend this book to girls over 8 years old. I’m hoping to read The Hunger next time.

I adored this book, I was reading 24/7! I thought it was really interesting, as it was a completely new topic for me. What I love about this series is the personal touch. I also loved Eliza’s friendship with Jack, and how close they were because of Eliza’s late brother, William. I would have liked it to be longer because I wanted to hear more about her new life in the countryside. Overall, one of my favourite My Story books! I recommend it to ages 11+
